Hello, I’m Garreth Spencer, the founder of Storywork Alchemy and I help guys release their emotional attachment to videogames, alcohol and cigarettes.

For over 20 years, I battled addiction with videogames.

As I got older, It turned to heavy alcohol consumption and other destructive habits. Bouncing back and forth between staying isolated with video games or out blowing all of my money on alcohol at the pubs.

Fortunately, I found my way out through the power of Storywork.

Storywork Alchemy is born from this journey, offering you a path to rewrite your narrative and reclaim control. As a certified storywork coach, I’m here to guide you through personalized sessions and together we’ll alchemize your pain into power.

VIDEO GAMES

Why we choose them:
Video games in and of itself aren't inherently unhealthy, it’s the excessive and problematic gaming that leads to destructive consequences. Problems with work, school, relationships, long-term goals and physical health are some results from using video games to escape. Leading to shame, guilt, frustration, anxiety, low self-esteem and depression.

What to do about it:
Storywork plays a significant role in recovery by exploring and reshaping the narratives that contribute to our need to stay in the virtual realms. With storywork and breath we can easily change the story and set ourselves up for even more gratifying and fulfilling experiences. Life is the game!

alcohol

Why we choose it:
We may choose to interact with alcohol because of peer pressure, socializing, stress/emotional relief, escapism or past experienced trauma. Heavy drinking can lead to a multitude of negative life experiences though, like organ damage, mental health issues, relationship problems, accidents and self image to name a few.

What to do about it:
Many negative stories we carry can be fortified by drinking alcohol. Using storywork to observe why we turn to the bottle is a foundational step to taking back our power and becoming more solidified in ourselves. Everyone’s journey is unique and there isn’t one size fits all. Getting into our personal stories that we tell ourselves about challenges, and alchemizing them, will positively influence our emotional responses and resiliency.

cigarettes

Why we choose them:
Let’s face it, commercial cigarettes are highly addictive and many people struggle with them for many reasons; chemical dependency, coping mechanism, alertness and peer pressure. Whatever the case, cigarettes are very harmful. We inhale around 600 chemicals in cigarettes and e-cigs aren’t far behind.

What to do about it:
Releasing the emotional attachment and changing the way we perceive this addiction is very gratifying work. Breaking the chains of cigarettes can relieve that background noise of anxiousness creating a healthier and more fulfilling experience. Resulting in enhanced respiratory function, heart health, increased energy levels and financial savings.
